How to change the width of your columns

Tables can be great for showcasing a lot of information all at once. But to ensure they are easily readable, it can be useful to adjust the width of your columns. In this doc, we'll explain how to adjust column width and the different options available.

    Choose a Table starting point from the template chooser and upload your data.

    Under Cell styles  > Column width, choose how you want your column widths to be set:

    Auto

    The default option is Auto. This generally adjusts your columns to fit their data.

    (If your data doesn't fit the columns as expected, you may want to enable Wrap text in cell further up these settings.)

    Equally spaced

    If you want your columns to all be the same width, choose Equally spaced column width instead.

    Custom

    The Custom option allows you to set specific widths for each of your columns, in terms of either % or px.

    Separate the widths for each column with commas and ensure you use % or px after each width. Using px allows you to set fixed widths, while with % you can set widths as a proportion of the total table width.

    TIP: Consider how your table should look on mobile when setting widths: fixed widths that together extend beyond the device's size will introduce a horizontal scroll, while in percentage terms the whole table width will always fit on screen. 

    Using column width to search by a "hidden" column

    Sometimes you want users to be able to search based on a particular column, but don't want to waste space in your table by including that column.

    For this, you can use the column widths option to "hide" this column:

    Position the column you want to hide as the first column in the datasheet.

    Under Cell Styles > Column width, choose Custom.

    Set the first column's width to either 0px or 0%, then continue adding the other column widths.

    Your first column will now be "hidden" from view, but if you have searching enabled for that column, its values can still be searcheable.
